Overview

The gaming benchmark the 9800X3D was measured against. First-gen 3D V-Cache adds 96MB of L3 under eight Zen 4 cores, flattening frametimes in cache-hungry games at a 120W ceiling. Still excellent for a pure gaming build. The catch is that the stacked cache limits overclocking, which the 9800X3D fixes while pulling ahead.

Locked multiplier is the only gripe

You cannot really overclock the cores like the 9800X3D, so tuning is limited to PBO and curve optimizer. Still a fantastic gaming chip.

    Great, but no iGPU headaches

Technically it has Radeon graphics but do not expect much. Get a discrete card. Gaming performance itself is exactly as advertised.

Slotted into my old B650 with a BIOS flash

Cache die does the heavy lifting in MSFS and Tarkov. Frametime graph is a flat line now where my old 5800X spiked constantly.

    Still the value gaming king

Bought it after the 9800X3D launched and prices softened. 96MB cache and a 120W envelope means a mid tower air cooler keeps it happy.

    Sips power for the performance

Undervolted with a -30 curve and it holds 5GHz effective in games while barely warming the Peerless Assassin. Hard to fault.
