Overview

The gaming CPU to beat. Second-gen 3D V-Cache stacks 96MB of L3 beneath eight unlocked Zen 5 cores, so 1080p and 1440p frametimes stay flat where raw clocks stall. Moving the cache die below the cores means it finally overclocks. Overkill for pure productivity, where the 9950X's extra threads do more per dollar.

    Gaming monster, average at renders

For pure gaming nothing touches it at 1080p/1440p. Just know the eight cores mean it trails a 9900X in Blender if you do content work on the side.

Worth it if you already have AM5

Great chip, but the price stayed high for months after launch. If you can wait for a dip it is an easy recommendation.

    Flat frametimes in every title

Dropped it into my B650 board with a bit of PBO and the 96MB cache does exactly what the reviews said. 1% lows in sim games went up more than the average FPS did.

Paired with a 4090 and never CPU bound

At 4K it barely breaks a sweat but the headroom is nice. No stability issues at stock, EXPO 6000 posted first try.

Runs cooler than the 7800X3D it replaced

With the cache die under the cores it actually tolerates a proper overclock. Peaks around 78C on a 360 AIO under Cinebench, well within reason for 120W.
