No issues with the chip itself. It just did not offer enough over the 7700X at launch pricing. Wait for a discount and it is a easy four stars.

Coming from a 5800X the efficiency is night and day. EXPO 6000 CL30 posted immediately on my Tomahawk board.

For productivity it is great and very cool running. If pure gaming is your goal the 9800X3D is the better spend, but this does everything well.

At 65W stock it barely warms my NH-U12A. Flipped on the 105W PBO mode for a bit more all-core and it is a nice bump for free.
